JUNIOR PROGRAMS

We currently have two junior groups;

Junior Development & Junior Performance

Junior Development:

This group is suitable for beginners and younger athletes where the focus is largely on developing good skills and techniques. We believe this must come first for athletes' safety and injury prevention and in order to establish a strong foundation. Only perfect practice makes perfect.

Junior Performance:

This group is next level. These athletes have met certain criteria consisting of mastering skills and techniques and achieving set times.

Intensity and distance is increased to prepare athletes for higher levels of competition.

SWIMMING

LOCATION:

We use the Heath Ramsay Swim Centre at the West Moreton Anglican College, 12 Keswick Rd, Karrabin. Entry is via the Chapel Gates.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Training will include stroke development with drills as well as triathlon specific work such as learning how to draft, sight, and turn around buoys. We also include aquathon practice.

Coach Kerri loves incorporating SBS's (short burst sprints) in a variety of ways including buddy kick sprints.

TEAM

We are a registered squad with Triathlon Australia and we believe in fostering a culture of mutual respect and good sportsmanship. We aim to create a safe, encouraging and supportive family environment where each athlete is valued.

Our team loves to have fun and we make sure our programs incorporate this to keep things interesting and enjoyable.

OPEN WATER SWIMMING

LOCATION:

Our squad uses the safety of the enclosed swimming area at Paradise Point near the Ephraim Island Bridge for our open water swimming training.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

We have our own ocean buoys for our athletes to practice sighting and swimming around. We incorporate drafting, sighting, beach running, porpoising and relay baton races into the morning's activities.

CYCLING

LOCATION:

Ipswich Cycle Park (ICP), Huxham St, Churchill, Ipswich

WHAT TO EXPECT:

This training is not just about doing laps but a large focus is on bike handling skills. Our program follows the skill requirements for ITU racing as set out by Triathlon Australia.

We have our own bike racks and rollers for athletes to use.

Coach Glenn is a very experienced cyclist and teaches skills in progression making it easy even for beginners.

Some of the skill development includes time trialling, drafting, cornering, signalling, braking, one-handed riding, avoiding obstacles,  mounting and dismounting.

Training can consist of bike handling skill development, time trialling, sprint work, brick sets and endurance riding.
